The 10 most played cards

October 11, 2024

Let’s start with a disclaimer: we lied!

What we’re presenting today are not simply the most played cards in the format, but those most present in the decks that topped the tournaments during Season 2 (April-June 2024).

We analyzed 334 lists cataloged in our official Moxfield account to bring you the crème de la crème of gameplay choices. You can find the full list in our article Staples – 2024 Season 2.

Ready to discover which cards made a mark? Let’s take a look at Centurion players’ preferences, starting from the 10th position!

10. Orcish Bowmasters (139 copies)

This black creature has earned a place of honor in 1v1 matches thanks to its ability to severely punish decks that draw many cards. Whether it’s taking down small creatures or generating tokens, Bowmasters consistently prove to be a thorn in the side for opponents.

9. Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer (141 copies)

The most feared pirate in the format (after Dargo, the Shipwrecker)! Ragavan not only accelerates mana but also steals valuable resources from the opponent’s deck, all while dealing quick damage. It’s easy to see why many decks want to make the most of this small legendary looter.

8. Wash Away (142 copies)

A counterspell that has found its home in Centurion. Thanks to its low cost, Wash Away is the perfect answer for problematic commanders, becoming one of the most reliable weapons for control decks in the format.

7. Fury (144 copies)

Fury makes a grand entrance, eliminating multiple threats in one blow, without paying the mana cost thanks to its evoke mechanic. In a format where the board often sees several small creatures (mana dorks, Orcish Bowmasters, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Mother of Runes, etc.), having access to such versatile removal is key to maintaining control of the battlefield.

6. Counterspell (146 copies)

An evergreen counterspell that, after years, remains one of the most efficient answers to most threats. With a low mana cost, it continues to be the cornerstone of control and tempo decks in the format, neutralizing opponents’ most crucial plays.

5. Brainstorm (148 copies)

The king of blue cantrips. Brainstorm is essential for manipulating your hand and library, and when combined with cards like fetchlands or other shuffle effects, it becomes an incredibly powerful tool for gaining significant advantage.

4. Force of Will (149 copies)

It’s no surprise to see Force of Will in this list. Its ability to stop decisive moves without spending mana makes it a staple in every control or combo deck, offering protection at the most crucial moments.

3. Swords to Plowshares (156 copies)

The quintessential white removal. Swords to Plowshares exiles the biggest threats for a trivial mana cost, allowing white decks to deal with most of the problematic creatures present in the format.

2. Fatal Push (158 copies)

Over the years, we’ve seen an incredible increase in the speed of play and the inclusion of many efficient low-cost creatures. This makes Fatal Push a true staple in all decks with black.

1. Lightning Bolt (165 copies)

Even though many new creatures often have a toughness greater than 3, this card continues to be widely used for its versatility: with just one mana, it can remove creatures, deal direct damage, and even finish off a game.

These ten cards make one thing clear: in Centurion Commander, efficiency is key. Quick answers and versatile cards dominate the 1vs1 format, and it’s not hard to see why these are the most popular choices among successful players. Whether you’re looking to build a competitive deck or simply improve your strategy, these cards are an excellent starting point for understanding the dynamics of the current meta.
