Centurions,
Today we share with you a new banlist update, resulting from thorough analysis and constant dialogue with the community. These changes aim to improve the format’s balance and stimulate new dynamics in the metagame.
On our website, you’ll find an article with decklists ready for use, featuring cards available starting from today. We look forward to seeing how these changes shape the game and hope they inspire new strategies and competitive approaches.

Lesson Board
What are Lessons, and how are they integrated into the format?
The Lesson subtype appears on certain instant and sorcery cards but has no special rules associated with it. When a card is introduced into the game from outside, it remains in the game until the game ends or its owner leaves the game, whichever happens first.
In the Centurion format, it will be allowed to have a Lesson Board under specific conditions. Here are the main rules:
- Cards introduced into the game from outside cannot have the same name as any card in your starting deck.
- When instructed to “learn,” you may choose to do nothing. Discarding a card or adding a Lesson to your hand are optional actions.
- Cards with the Lesson subtype can be included in the Lesson Board or directly in the main deck, like any other instant or sorcery card.
This new addition offers greater strategic flexibility and will make it easier to incorporate similar mechanics in the future.
For reference, we remind you that:
701.45a “Learn” means “You may discard a card. If you do, draw a card. If you didn’t discard a card, you may reveal a Lesson card you own from outside the game and put it into your hand.”
205.3k Instants and sorceries share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are also called spell types. The spell types are Adventure, Arcane, Lesson, and Trap.
Eris, Roar of the Storm
This commander has established itself as a dominant presence in the most competitive and successful decks over the past year. Its resilience to specific hate and the resulting difficulty opponents face in consistently handling it have made Eris an overly prevalent and challenging adversary, narrowing the spectrum of deck choices.
We do not rule out reinstating Eris in the near future, but we are eager to see how the metagame adapts to its absence.
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer
With the increasing power level and greater impact in the early turns, we believe that Ragavan’s strength is no longer so overwhelming as to exclude other available aggro options. This decision will expand the range of choices and make the format more accessible to new players, while also covering an underexplored area of the metagame: mono-red burn.
Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath
Uro is once again available as a commander, a change that promises to add a new dimension to Simic strategies. Its ability to generate card advantage and gain life makes it ideal for control and combo archetypes. In the current landscape, we believe it can bring variety to the metagame, and its characteristics can be positively absorbed.
Hermit Druid
Hermit Druid has never seen play within our format. Its ability allows milling your deck until a basic land is revealed, enabling new graveyard interaction strategies. The card can be used in archetypes already employing such mechanics without disrupting the metagame’s balance or creating entirely new strategies. We believe its full potential is realized only in specific builds, potentially weakening mana base stability. For these reasons, we think its inclusion will bring additional depth to deckbuilding and open new avenues to explore.
